Forecasting

Energy flow chart with the forecast period

SEMS forecasts your solar production and consumption in 15-minute steps, so the plan knows whether the sun will fill the battery tomorrow or it should charge tonight.

Solar forecast

SEMS combines a weather forecast for your site, refreshed every 10 minutes, with what your own panels produced in the past, so it learns shading, soiling, orientation and ageing without you entering them. During the day it corrects the rest of the forecast to how the panels are actually doing.

Consumption forecast

The consumption forecast comes from your site's history at the same time of day, shifted when the site is running clearly above or below normal.

On the Strategy page you choose 2, 4 or 6 weeks of history (4 by default); shorter follows changes faster, longer is steadier. Lookahead horizon sets how far the plan looks ahead, from 1 to 72 hours (24 by default).

Careful by design

When SEMS sells stored energy expecting tomorrow's sun to refill the battery, it counts only the share of the solar forecast that has proven reliable on your site.

Where you see it

The Predictions chart on the Home page and the forecast on the Strategy page show expected solar, consumption and battery charge level.

The solar forecast needs the site's latitude and longitude from the Site and locale setup step; without them SEMS relies on history alone.
