Strategies

Strategy page

A strategy is the job you give your battery: use your own solar, avoid expensive tariff hours, earn on market prices, keep energy for a power cut, or stay below your agreed power. You pick it on the System Strategy page and SEMS does the planning.

SEMS plans every 15 minutes, up to 72 hours ahead, from your forecast, your real prices from the Electricity Plan and the battery's state.

SEMS only sends commands when Enable automatic strategy control is on and at least one device is ticked under Controlled devices in this system. Until then you see the plan, but nothing is switched.

What every strategy respects

Every strategy keeps the battery within its charge levels and power limits, and grid import and export within Contract grid import (kW) and Contract grid export (kW). If your contract has agreed power per time block, enter it as TB1 import (kW) to TB5 import (kW); SEMS uses the lower limit in each block. A limit is a ceiling, not a promise, and any excess is recorded.

Three Electricity Plan switches decide what the battery may do with the grid: Allow grid charging, Allow battery grid export and Allow grid-energy resale. With resale off, energy bought from the grid is used only on site. Every strategy works within these switches.

Every trade must earn at least your Minimum net profit (ct/kWh) after battery losses. Solar that would sell for less goes into the battery, and if the battery is full, controllable inverters are turned down.

Which strategy fits you

StrategyWhat it aims forTypical site
Self-SufficiencyUse your own solar and keep grid import close to zeroHome or business with solar and a battery and no special tariff goal
Home TariffShift home consumption away from expensive tariff periods, with an optional reserve or daily charge targetHome on a day/night (MT/VT), single (ET) or block tariff
SavingsThe lowest total bill, small worthwhile gains includedDynamic or time-of-use prices
TradingProfit from price differences, focused on the stronger onesDay-ahead market prices
BackupTrading while always keeping energy for an outageBackup-capable (EPS) system on market prices
Peak ShavingStay below the agreed power in every time blockBusiness billed on agreed or peak power
Do NothingMonitoring onlyCommissioning, or a site run by another controller
PredictiveRuns Trading, Savings or Self-Sufficiency, as selectedSetups where an integration picks the strategy

Installers will find the choice by site and contract in the installer guide.

Settings on the Strategy page

The Simple UI mode shows the strategy cards and the automatic control switch. Advanced adds the Strategy tuning panel; Peak Shaving's Projected load overrides and Predictive's sub-strategy choice are always visible.

Three settings apply to every strategy. Forecast History (Weeks) sets how much history the consumption forecast learns from, Lookahead horizon (hours) sets how far ahead SEMS plans (1 to 72 hours), and Minimum solar output (kW) is the lowest output SEMS asks of curtailed inverters. Other settings are explained on each strategy's page.
