Backup
Backup is for backup-capable systems that should earn on market prices while always keeping energy for a power cut. It works like Trading, but a good evening price can never leave the battery empty before an outage.
You set the reserve with Minimum battery reserve SoC (%). Neither consumption nor sales take the battery below it, and SEMS charges it back if it drops under. Above the reserve, Backup charges, stores and sells exactly as Trading does, and Discharge start SoC (%) works the same way.
Your operator or an integration can also ask SEMS to charge towards full ahead of an expected power cut; Backup does not predict outages itself.
Choosing the reserve
The reserve is in the Strategy tuning panel in Advanced mode. Left empty, it is the battery's own minimum and Backup behaves like Trading. A high reserve keeps nearly everything for outages; for no battery decisions at all, use Do Nothing.
What you need
A backup-capable (EPS) system and market prices on the Electricity Plan. Backup works within the Allow battery grid export and Allow grid charging switches; with both off it still keeps the reserve and uses the energy above it on site.
What it won't do
Backup doesn't detect outages or switch the site to backup power. That is the inverter's job; SEMS makes sure the energy is there.
