Hardware
The SEMS controller is a compact unit, usually installed in the electrical cabinet near the inverters and grid meter. It needs no computer or cloud service to run.
How it connects
Most inverters, batteries and meters connect to the RS485 port over Modbus RTU. Network devices, such as larger inverters, battery cabinets, Huawei SmartLogger or SMA Sunny WebBox, use Modbus TCP. EV chargers connect over OCPP, and the SOFAR EV Charger over Modbus. Devices that use CAN, MQTT or a REST interface, such as the Sungrow logger, are supported as well.
The controller joins your network by Ethernet or Wi-Fi (2.4 or 5 GHz, as a client, its own access point, or both). You use SEMS in a web browser over HTTPS, from a computer, tablet or phone.
Updates and safety
Updates are signed by CyberSun, take the site offline for only about 3 minutes, and roll back automatically if something goes wrong.
You can back up and restore the SEMS configuration, and a factory reset clears all customer data. The Settings page shows the controller's temperatures.
